What is “continuous waterproofing”?

Continuous waterproofing refers to a building design and construction approach that ensures that all areas of a structure are properly waterproofed and protected from water intrusion. This involves using materials and techniques that create a seamless, uninterrupted barrier against water infiltration, including the use of waterproof membranes, sealants, and coatings.

In practical terms, continuous waterproofing means that every part of a building that is vulnerable to water infiltration, such as foundations, walls, roofs, and decks, is properly sealed and protected. This includes ensuring that all joints, seams, and penetrations are properly treated with waterproofing materials and that the waterproofing system is integrated with other building components to create a cohesive, watertight structure.

Continuous waterproofing is particularly important in areas that are prone to heavy rain, flooding, or high groundwater levels, as well as in buildings that are located in coastal or humid environments. By providing a continuous barrier against water intrusion, continuous waterproofing helps prevent costly water damage, mold growth, and structural degradation, and helps ensure the long-term durability and stability of the building.
